TATA CRUCIBLE FINALS

This is a brief coverage of the TATA CRUCIBLE FINALS which took place yesterday at TAJ LANDS END BANDRA...I just managed to get a share of the finals (4 out of 5 rounds of the TATA track...) So, please read below to get the questions which I could manage to remember and recollect during my brief stay in the finals...

The 1st round was called "GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE":

1. Mr. and Mrs. Singh, she set up an educational institute, Vidya Bharati Shikshan Prasarak Mandal. They also set up Shram Sadhana Trust that runs hostels for working women. How do we know Mrs. Singh better?
A: Well, answers from Mrs. Manmohan Singh followed until he turn came to the audience...No hands went up and just when Giri was about to answer..A not-so-confident hand caught his eye...Is it PRATIBHA PATIL? Was the answer... Giri just in his usual mannerism asked "Oh u mean to say the female prez of India?" and then followed with " GREAT ANSWER...PUT UR HANDS TOGETHER..." and I dedicate this pen drive to Ms. Prez...was simply feeling on top of the world.. (I know I sound dramatic...but please try to understand my ecstasy)

2. After the US Food & Drug Administration's (FDA's) censored their product - Cocaine energy drink - changed its name to what? Censored.
This one also went to the audience where a Non TATA Track finalist from VIZAG STEEL answered....Oh I am going to miss the NON TATA TRACK!!!!!

3. 1st Distributor of HLL: Dada & Co. (after whom HLL named DALDA...the defending champs opened their account....TCS Kolkata was Represented by one from Jamshedpur and Mr. Hat Trick Sabyasachi Chandra from LONDON...thats the passion of Quizzing!!!)

4. What is CONCORDE effect? (It was known that VIZAG STEEL from Kolkata will give a tough fight at the NON TATA finals when this question was answered again by the lone member of the gathering..the same man who answered the 2nd question) the answer is: Continuing with the project which has failed to be economically viable as was the case with CONCORDE

5. Customer of a type of show answer was balle dancers

6. "PIZZA IS FREE IF WE DONT GIVE U A BILL" why did this concept generate in US? So that owners dont get cheated due to false reporting of the workers at counter

7. WINDOWS 95 changed 8.3 convention what is that? Before Win 95 file names were of max 8 chars and extension max chars... after WIN 95 this convention of limited chars for a file name was changed

This is the point where I had to leave the venue with The TATA round still to go for The TATA TRACK and the complete NON TATA TRACK to follow....But later I came to know from my dear friend KARTHIK who was in the venue throughout the evening that History repeated itself the 4th time when:

SABYASACHI CHANDRA again emerged the winner along with his partner representing TCS Kolkata 4 years in a row (For records: Since TATA CRUCIBLE BEGUN, HE HAS WON IT EVERY YEAR)

and for the NON TATA TRACK , MR. RAJIV RAI and VIBHENDU of DEUTSHE BANK sucesfully manged to complete his DOUBLE when he won the TATA CRUCIBLE (He was also the winner of the BRAND EQUITY)

So ending this post saying:

Its a nice coverage. I have a small doubt. Could u explain how the round 3 racing minds work? Thanks

Thinking on my feet..but with a touch of emotion said...

Hi AGNI,

In RACING MINDS, the clues are given in the same way as I have written

Taking the first example:

what is given is:

Shantanu Narayan CEO & Prez (A+1)
HQ at 80 Strand, London (N-2)
Chairman Ishaat Hussain (T-3)
NASDAQ: RTRSY (U+2)

Now,

the 1st answer is: ADOBE so A+1 is the letter D
2nd Answer: PEARSON as it is given N-2 so the corresponding letter is O
3rd answer: VOLTAS count 3 leetrs back from T which is V
and RTRSY is REUTERS and U+2 is E

So answer is DOVE compiling all the letters serially

when there are two same letters u have to judge which fits the bill....

Hope I answered ur query

Actually, the name of the Coca-Cola contour bottle inventor is Earl R. Dean....close, but no cigar...probably just a typo :)

...He was my Grandfather.
